MET Music Therapy Convocation Ceremony

MET League of Colleges decided to tread a different path by introducing an off beat programme. The institution desired to present a gift to the world of healing in the form of Music Therapy Programme. The gift has now borne fruit under the aegis of MET Institute of Alternative Careers.

On August 01, MET witnessed the MET Music Therapy Convocation Ceremony for its second batch of graduating students. Chief Guest Shri Anup Jalota popularly known as the Bhajan Samraat, CA. Sunil G. Karve, Founder - MET, Pt. Shashank Katti, Head  - Music Therapy graced this occasion by lighting the traditional inaugural lamp. The ceremony was presided over by Shri Anup Jalota, who presented graduation certificates to the students of Music Therapy. Shri Anup Jalota spoke on the benefits of music therapy and narrated a few interesting anecdotes that would reaffirm one’s interest in the power of music. Shri Anup Jalota said, "Any kind of music which received or connects you to God, has the power to heal and I'm immensely proud of MET to have such a unique programme in Music Therapy. This programme should spread to every part of the country, and students should strive to share their knowledge with the world; I wish them luck in their future endeavors."

The music therapy course was delivered by Pt. Shashank Katti along with four doctors. The course not only aims to help the society at large, but also wishes to create a commercially viable model for students. “After graduating from this course, students can set up their own individual practices or join hospitals; they can work in tandem with doctors, moreover one does not need a degree in medicine to start one’s own practice.” said Pt. Katti. Music therapy uses music to enhance and improve the mental and physical health of a person. It can be used on anyone irrespective of age, gender or medical condition.

During the graduation convocation ceremony, one is most unlikely to find students spread across various age groups. This statement certainly does not hold true for MET Music Therapy Programme, where age does not seem to be a barrier. The auditorium was brimming with students from age groups, ranging from 20-years to 60-years.

MET League of Colleges is the first ever institution in India to host a six months, part time course in Music Therapy and it wishes to contribute to the society by witnessing many such graduation convocation ceremonies in the future.
