Winning the World of Words

MET Management Student, Sherwin Rodrigues participated in the ‘6th Igate Open International Scrabble Tournament’, which was held from January 15 – 17, 2010 at Whitefield, Bangalore. Over 66 participants from various countries such as Sri Lanka, Oman, Phillipines, Thailand, New Zealand, Singapore, U.K., Malaysia, Bahrain and U.A.E. The current World Champion and Runner up competed in the tourney, which had total prize money of over US $ 10,000. It consisted of 24 games over the 3 days. The final placing for the top 5 were - Nigel Richards, New Zealand scored - 19/24 won 1st place, Sherwin Rodrigues, MET management student - India scored - 18/24 won 2nd place, Pakorn Nemitrmansuk, Thailand scored - 18/24 won 3rd place, Michael Tang, Malaysia scored - 16/24 won 4th place and Mohd Irfan, Bahrain scored - 16/24 won 5th place. ‘It was a great feeling to have finished the above current world championship’, says Sherwin Rodrigues the leader who beat twice out of three games during the tourney.
