Business Excellence Study 2010 at MET

‘Business Excellence Study – 2010’ which is based on the Malcolm Baldrige Business Excellence Model, is a unique initiative of the MET Schools of Management. Referred to as the TATA Business Excellence Model (TBEM) in the Tata Group. The objective of this study was to help students to understand the principles of ‘Total Quality’ and prepare them to adopt and follow right management approaches and principles through their corporate journey. The case study method was adopted to share the concept of TBEM in eight interesting sessions.

The finale was conducted on March 3, 2011, which coincidentally happened to be the birth anniversary of Shri Jamsetji Tata, the illustrious Founder of the Tata Group. It was held at MET to recognize the students who had successfully completed eight sessions of the ‘Business Excellence Study-2010’ with Mr. T.R. Doongaji, Dean, Business Excellence - MET SOM.

The programme began with a welcome address by C.A. Sunil G. Karve, Founder - MET, Prof. Vijay Page, Director General - MET IOM, Mr. T.R. Doongaji, Dean, Business Excellence - MET SOM, Prof. Arvind Nerkar, Dean, Students Development & Academic Excellence – MET SOM and Prof. Dr. Nirmala Joshi and Prof. Pallavi Mhatre and all other faculty members and students present.

This was followed by a brief introduction of the Model, and the students sharing their overall learnings from the Study. The Mentors too discussed their overall experience about the Business Excellence Study - 2010. Mr. T.R. Doongaji then presented his insights on the model and stated that his basic objective in sharing his own learnings from the model with the students was to better prepare them and give them an edge as they entered corporate life. He hoped that what was shared through the eight sessions would trigger the right thoughts and actions by students as they encounter various challenging situations in their careers.
Thereafter, the students shared their individual learnings from each of the eight sessions. This was followed by the distribution of certificates by CA. Sunil G. Karve, Founder – MET to the students and the announcement of the best team which was a tie between two teams. A special trophy was presented to the teams in recognition of the high quality of the presentation made by them during the Study.

The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks.
