Workshop on HR Challenges in Insurance Industry
MET Centre for Insurance Training, Research & Development (CITRD) hosted a one day workshop on ‘HR Challenges in Insurance Industry’ on 11th March 2011.
Presided over by Mr. R. K. Nair, Member, Insurance Regulatory & Development Authority (IRDA) in the presence of stalwarts of both Life and General Insurance Industries, the workshop was addressed by Prof. Vijay Page, Director General – MET IOM, Mr. Vijay Thakur, Dean - MET CITRD, Prof. Arun Patil, Co-ordinator (eMBA Finance - Banking & Insurance), Mr. R. M. Solanki, (Rtd.) General Manager, GIC, Mr. Chandrasekhar & Mr. S. J. Gidwani, former Secretary General of Insurance Institute of India.
The speakers highlighted the HR Challenges as lack of skilled & appropriate personnel, lack of serious training & development, unsuitability of existing staff-members, lack of understanding of the true nature of Insurance Industry, high attrition of employees, absence of stringent regulatory environment, miss-spelling of policies and so on. Several creative and constructive solutions to tackle these challenges were also proposed.
The event was concluded with an interactive Q & A session; Mr. Nair gave the regulator perspectives on important issues. Thus, the workshop provided, at a glance, a kaleidoscopic panorama of the past, present & future of the Insurance Industry.
