MET Faculty at UNCTAD - Empretec (Entrepreneurial Training Workshop)


Dr. Farida Virani, eminent Faculty and HOD (HR & Behavioural Sciences), MET successfully completed the Empretec Training Workshop (ETW) held at Bengaluru from 21st - 26th April 2014. Dr. Virani is also the Facilitator for the Empretec programme in India. The workshop is highly rigorous and promotes learning by doing, embedding a behavioural change which inculcates confidence in the participants (entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs) ascertaining entrepreneurial success in any situation. The participants comprised of a wide spectrum of young and aspiring entrepreneurs, government officials and highly seasoned business persons, some of whom were nominated by banks, chambers of commerce, government agencies and leading NGO's. Empretec is the flagship capacity-building programme of the United Nations, managed by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). Its aim is to promote innovative and internationally competitive, sustainable small and medium enterprises. The programme is in demand - 20 governments have put forward their requests to UNCTAD for Empretec installations in their countries. At the heart of the programme is the Empretec Training Workshop (ETW). The ETW promotes a methodology of behavioural change that helps entrepreneurs put their ideas into action and grow. Empretec complements tool-room, and specific skill-based programmes. It is based on a methodology developed originally at Harvard University and tested in 70 countries before its adoption. The ETW identifies and reinforces personal entrepreneurial competencies in forward-looking entrepreneurs and promotes an entrepreneurial spirit in managers of large corporations. The programme has been endorsed by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India, which expressed support for its adoption by financial institutions and industry organizations/associations.
