MET celebrates Bandra

It was a landmark in the life of MET League of Colleges when two melodious events were held at MET as part of the prestigious ‘Celebrate Bandra’ fest. The events scheduled included a melodious evening on ‘Classical Ragas and Film Music’. The luminaries present included singers Dr. Sandhya Kavate and Sanjeevini amongst others. The next day comprised of a nostalgic evening titled ‘A tribute to Begum Akhtar’, facilitated by Dr. Kavate. “We have always focused on more contemporary ghazals in previous years. This is the first time we are going back to such an intense singer as Begum Akhtar,” said Kathavate. For her, singing Akhtar’s ghazals was also a way of remembering legendary poets Jigar Muradabadi and Shakeel Badayuni, whose compositions the ghazals queen used to sing. “We rarely hear good renditions of these poets today. It was a way of saluting them as well,” said Kathavate. She sang popular ghazals like Aye mohabbat tere anjaam par rona aaya, along with the famous Dadara, muft hue badnaam. The ghazal evening was well in keeping with the Celebrate Bandra theme of ‘Harking Back to Heritage.’ And MET was proud to be part of such a wonderful endeavour. The audience included Music lovers from in and around Bandra, including students, staff and faculty from MET. Celebrities like Arun Datte and Tom Alter were present for the musical evening.
