MET presents SAFMA – India Annual Meet 2009

The Financial and Entertainment Capital of India, Mumbai hosted SAFMA (South Asia Free Media Association) Annual General Meet on Saturday December 5, 2009 in association with MET. Mr. Ashok Chavan, Honorable Chief Minister of Maharashtra inaugurated the meet in the presence of Mr. Kumar Ketkar, Editor – Loksatta and Co-ordinator – SAFMA, Mumbai, Imtiaz Alam, Secretary General – SAFMA, CA. Sunil G. Karve, Founder Trustee and Vice Chairman – MET League of Colleges. The event united the best talents in Education, Media, IT and Entertainment from India and Pakistan. The senior journalists from various South Asian Countries participated and expressed their views on multi-media related issues. The eminent guest list included noted Film Writer and Lyricist - Gulzar, Theater and Film Actor - Atul Kulkarni, Film Director - Madhur Bhandarkar, Actress - Urmila Matondkar, Renowned Actor - Nasiruddin Shah, Directors - Ashutosh Gowarikar and Amol Gupte, Producer & Director - N Chandra, President, Times Group - Bhaskar  Das and Reliance Big TV - Amit Khanna.  

It may be recalled that the Mumbai – Karachi Forum was formed 2 years back to bring together educationists, academicians, students and all the stakeholders of the Knowledge Society, to facilitate free and open exchange of knowledge, learning, experiences and solutions between India and Pakistan.
The key note address of the first session was delivered by Ravi Shankar Prasad, Former Central IB Minister and the discussion witnessed the participation of Veteran Journalists - P. Sainath (The Hindu), Vinod Sharma (Hindustan Times) and Kumar Ketkar (Loksatta) with others.

Mr. Shashi Tharoor, Honorable Minister of State for External Affairs, delivered the key note address of the panel discussion with the theme of 'lmpact of new technology on Media', where the Senior Journalist - Mr. Sreekant Khandekar, Editor in Chief & Director – Agency faqs, Mr. Madhur Bhandarkar, Renowned Film Director, Mr. Sanjay Gaikwad, Founder and Managing Director – UFO and Imtiaz Alam participated as speakers. The concluding remarks were offered by K K Katiyal, President of SAFMA India.
