EDPRM Overview

The Executive Diploma in Public Relations Management (EDPRM) is an industry-supported autonomous programme for aspiring professionals and graduates. The programme has been specially designed for professionals who aspire to pursue a career in Public Relations. The programme attempts to go beyond the theoretical framework by providing them hands-on training on the PR tools and techniques. During this programme, the student will acquire working knowledge that can be immediately applied at the work place.

Executive Diploma in Public Relations Management (EDPRM)

6 months, weekend (Saturday: 3:00 – 8:00 pm and Sunday: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm) executive diploma for graduates and/or PR practitioners who wish to make a mark in the PR profession.

The EDPRM programme transforms an aspirant into a complete, ready to be absorbed PR professional through industry-ready, practical and holistic PR modules.

Why an Industry-endorsed PR Programme?
MET’s research and understanding of the PR Industry showed that there is a dire need for trained industry-ready PR professionals. Through discussions with our esteemed PR faculty and corporates, MET ideated a 6 month, weekend Executive Diploma in Public Relations Management (EDPRM) for aspirants who wish to make a mark in the PR industry. MET IMM envisages that a holistic programme like EDPRM will allow quality personnel to enter the PR world and thus contribute to the growth of the PR industry.

EDPRM programme is endorsed by the prestigious Public Relations Consultants Association of India (PRCAI). MET Institute of Mass Media outlined the syllabus, curriculum, prospectus, admission process, and evaluation and certification system for this professional programme. The programme was then vetted and endorsed by PRCAI committee. Industry professionals from PRCAI will deliver several modules for this programme. At the same time other PR professionals from the industry will also share knowledge with the students. Thus, professionals and not professors delivering this programme ensure that realistic industry inputs will find their way into the curriculum.

The PR Boom and Media Convergence

The business world of today is extremely competitive. Organisations need to have an edge that makes them stand out from the crowd, something that makes them more appealing and interesting to both the public and the media. The public are the buyers of the product and the media is responsible for selling it. Public Relations (PR) provide a service for the company by helping to give the public and the media a better understanding of how the organisation functions. Within a company, public relations can also come under the title of public information or customer relations. PR also helps the company to achieve its full potential.

As public image is important to all organisations and prominent personalities, the role of public relations specialist becomes pertinent in crisis situations. Public relations agencies provide important and timely transmission of information that helps save the face of the organisation. PR has now moved from being a cosmetic function to a Board Room function. PR persons of today play a vital role in circumventing crisis and influencing the popular public opinion. For this very reason there is tremendous career scope for an aspiring PR professional.

The Indian PR industry, though fragmented, is gradually evolving. In India, the industry is more or less local with very little knowledge-exchange between PR agencies and MNCs that have been operating in the field for many years.

With the media boom, the Indian PR industry now needs is to move the communications business into the next stage of evolution and that can only happen with awareness of the depth and scope of PR.
