Inspiring Lessons on Film Making

Rueing Independent film makers don't usually get the chance to reach their films to the larger audiences. Award winning 'Sandcastle' director Somshukla Das was at MET, she said that she was lucky that the women-centric English film got the backers. Somshukla, who explores the intense and silent conflict of women of today in Sandcastle, had her film screened at the Femme International Festival in US besides in several categories in Tenerife Film Festival, in which it was nominated for award in four categories. It won Best Cinematography award in London. Founder at Cut to Cut Productions, Somshukla Das was at MET Institute of Mass Media for a face-face workshop with students about the life of an independent woman film-maker.

PG students of Mass Media at MET, pursuing Advanced Diploma in Mass Media, specialising in entertainment, had some interesting questions to ask regarding finding funds to make films, challenges faced by independent film makers, finding distributors etc. Through her interesting personal experiences, she made the students aware of the ups and downs in the careers of a film maker.
