The Malaysian Connection

It was all about hip hop poetry examining 'race, identity and the unrealised dreams of disempowered Australian and Asian youths' and the energetic interaction that followed. The mass Media students had a once-in-a-lifetime experience to interact with Omar Musa a Malaysian-Australian author, rapper and poet from Queanbeyan, Australia. His debut novel 'Here Come the Dogs' was long-listed for the Miles Franklin Award, the International Dublin Literary Award and he was named one of the Sydney Morning Herald's Young Novelists of the Year in 2015.

This interaction at MET IMM was held in association with the Australian Consulate General, Musa was accompanied by Mr. Rahul Maheshwari, Research Officer. Musa's work often deals with issues such as migration, racism, violence, masculinity and loneliness. And he spoke and performed at length before the M11 students on 8th February 2016. Besides he also recorded at the MET IMM studio for the web radio series. What an enlightening experience it was for the MET IMM students.
