MET presents India’s first Comedy Film Festival

MET Institute of Mass Media inaugurated its very own ‘METAMORPHOSIS - A COMEDY FESTICKLE’ on December 6 and 7, 2009 with fun, laughter and humour as its base. MET was the centre of occasion when ‘METAMORPHOSIS’ kicked off in style and with loads of expectations.
6TH DEC’09, : An effort towards the Unbeaten Path of Change, MET Institute of Mass Media initiated an event called METAMORPHOSIS, A COMEDY FESTICKLE where only fun and frolic is promoted, two full days of exhilaration and liberation. The event was inaugurated by veteran comedian Jagdeep along with Ms. Mayura Amarkant, Chief Course Co-ordinator – MET IMM. The first panel discussion included distinguished personalities like Kundan Shah, Swaroop Sampat, Sulbah Arya. A beaming Kundan Shah praised the enthusiasm and the efforts of the students in putting up such a show.
Classics of the comedy genre from both Indian and International filmmakers were showcased in this unique event. Setting up new standards, they organized informative panel discussion with renowned celebrities; set an area for promoting exhibitions and of course a lot of competitions. It was an opportunity to bring forth creativity and innovation, a chance of a life time to interact on a one to one basis with some of the most distinguished personalities from the industry.
About the event Trustee - MET said, “MET wants to provide a platform to all its students where they can present their skills and be judged by experts. We plan to take it forward each year covering different aspects inturn giving the students an oppurtunity to develop into an all round personality”.
Mayura Amarkant, the Chief Course Co – ordinator of MET IMM says, “We at MET Institute of Mass Media, believe that no learning is complete without practical hands on training. Organising this event has taught our students lessons in organising, team building, marketing, PR & event management”.
This was followed by the emminent personalities from ad world like Arjun Sablok, Indranil Datta, Jignesh Maniar & Naval Ahuja discussing on the topic of comedy in Ads. The end of day was on a humorous note with comedians like Sunil Pal and Shrikant Maski beign present to judge the stand up comedy. Both of them won over and entertained the crowd with a witty reto.
7TH DEC’09,: The second day at Metamorphosis begun with the screening of a Marathi comedy film Valu, which was then carried forward with a Marathi panel discussion. The panelists were some of the legendary Marathi artists like Kishore Pradhan, Sachin Khedekar, Prashant damle, Varsha Usgaounkar and an eminent director of today, Kedar Shinde. Mrs. Rashmi Saha opened the forum by taking the audience to a journey that unveiled the genesis of humor in Marathi theatre, cinema and television, after which Ms. Vaishali Kanvinde took over. The panelists discussed how the strong scripts make super hit comedy and weak ones make it disparaging. Evolution of comedy from the legendary comedian, Raja Gosavi’s era, role of female comedians, Farce – yesterday and today, the mindset and tolerance level of the audience and importance of a good director and teamwork for making a successful comedy, all this and a lot more issues were covered.
While Kedar Shinde stated ‘Comedy is a serious thing’, Kishore Pradhan added to it by saying that it is the most difficult art as it is subjective. One statement may make audience give thousand different kinds of reactions. He also proudly said that Marathi theatre is far more advanced than English with respect to comedy. This discussion panel received a huge response from the audience, and ended with a question answer session. This was followed by a film post-mortem panel discussion headed by renowned names of Indian Film Industry Nikhil Advani, Rohit Shetty and Honey Irani. While talking
