It was one of those days when MET Institute of Mass Media students walked into the campus with track pants and t-shirts. The workshop on Mime expected them to be active participants. Mime as a theatrical medium or as a performance art, involves the acting out of a story through body motions and facial expressions, without use of speech. Mime has a lot to do with effective communication and this was what a youthful trio – Kunal Motling, Gururaj Wadke and Krunal Patil, national gold medalists at the Youth Festival for Mime, showed the PG students of Mass Media through the day-long workshop.
MET Institute of Mass Media (MET IMM) organised a food photography workshop in the studio for the first time. During this 12 hour, mouth-watering workshop, national award winning film maker, Veena Bakshi along with ace cinematographers, Sameer Mahajan and Sanjeeb Das introduced students to the essential food styling techniques, including food storytelling, shooting styles, scene composition, post-production processes. The premise of this workshop was - If the food looks unappealing, so will the photos. And the photos were indeed lip-smacking!! The food photography workshop proved to be an enlightening experience for the PG students of Mass Media specializing in Advertising.
Deepa Vaswani is a successful media professional and strategist has discovered mystic knowledge about Yoga Mudras and implemented it in her life. She has helped people around her to overcome physical, emotional, and psychological problems using life changing Mudras as a revolutionary concept in the field of wellness. In her workshop with the Mass Media students at MET, she taught on how to handle the tough stresses of the media world through simple Yoga Mudras. In her interesting talk she said, "It's the answer and solution to wellness in today's fast pace life… and believes in natural ways to heal oneself".
MET IMM conducted their 3rd HR MEET on August 8, 2015. MET Synergy 2015 is a platform that consistently empowers the students to prepare themselves for career opportunities, face the media world and its ground realities. This year Human Resource professionals from renowned media organizations like Radio City, TAM Media Research, Ogilvy & Mather, BC Webwise, Denstu Agies Media, Perfect Relations, Travel HX HD, Big Synergy and Terence Lewis Inc participated. The entire event was organized by the M10 batch of PG in Mass Media. The forum opened with a formal presentation on ‘ADMM Life Cycle’ followed by a panel discussion moderated by Mr. Mohit Bakshi, CEO- Thought Bubble. The topic of the panel discussion was ‘Dynamics in Media Hiring’. Amongst the esteemed panellist were Mr. Govind Sharma, Manager- HR & Administration, Sony Music, Ms. Delna Dhamodiwala, VP-HR, Prime Focus World, Ms. Amruta Patil, Manager- HR, Endemol India, Mr. Abhijeet Patil, DGM-HR, Fountainhead Entertainment and Ms. Kankana Das, VP-HR, Star India. The discussion enlightened the students with insights on the essence of understanding their foundation - talent v/s skill, handling calibre competitions- fresh V/S experienced profiles and expectations ‘from and of’ an organization. The panellists appreciated the gesture of organizing the HR initiative and left the students with a newer approach towards their upcoming professional life.
Mr. Ajay Poddar, Managing Director, SYENERGY ENVIRONICS LTD, a Radiation Management company, conducted an interesting workshop on Radiation and its effects for students of MET Institute of Mass Media on Dec. 18. He has implemented its services in more than 1400 establishments to make them healthier and more productive by correcting negative radiations in a built environment. His book ‘Empower yourself – New life solutions for Health and Well Being” and his articles on Management practices, Radiation Solutions and Wellness have been well received. He spoke to the Media students about how to Use Technology/ Cell phones and Computers Safely, are cell phones and Tabs harmful- what is the way out, how we can make our indoor air cleaner and healthier simply and simple ways to make ourselves more productive and healthy.
Mr. Omar Qureshi, the Editor–in-Chief of Zoom TV, Bollywood's favorite personality and former editor at 'Stardust’, captivated the MET Institute of Mass Media students with a brilliant talk and knowledge sharing cases followed by a Q & A session, He was accompanied by Mr. Ajay Kulkarni, DGM - Marketing, Times Global Broadcasting Co. Ltd.
Mihir Vasavda - Principal Sports Correspondent, Indian Express with MET Institute of Mass Media students. He shared his professional journey with the young aspirants about how he handled mega events namely Football World Cup - South Africa, Commonwealth Games - New Delhi (2010) and Olympics – London in 2012. Students were also enlightened with the role of PR and Crisis Management in the life cycle of a Journalist.
MET Institute of Mass Media - M9 Journalism students participated in the ‘Economic Reporting Workshop’ conducted by Martha Steffens, Professor – SABEW Chair in Business and Financial Reporting from the University of Missouri School of Journalism. It was organized by the Public Affairs Office of the U.S. Consulate General, Mumbai on August 12, 2014. Students from various colleges were a part of the workshop. It was an extremely informative session with practical elements.
As part of ADMM’s Broadcast module, the Journalism students visited the sets of “Budget Lounge”, a special show by CNBC AWAAZ for the post budget coverage. The students learned the key to organise a TV show setup, how news coverage is planned and executed in a channel and also the essentials of time, resource and people management at a news show.
Mass Media students attended a panel discussion on 'Media as an Accelerator for Social Transformation’ at Hall of Harmony, Nehru Centre, Mumbai on July 15, 2014. Amongst the esteemed panelist were Guneet Monga (Producer, The Lunch Box and Gangs of Wasseypur), Vikramaditya Motwane (Director, Lootera and Udaan), Namita Vikas (Senior President and Chief Sustainability Officer, YES BANK and Member, Governing Council, YES FOUNDATION) and the legendary actress Shabana Azmi. The discussion was basically on how brands take the advantage or disadvantage of social media and how people perceive the same. It was an amazing learning experience for the students.

MET IMM students visited one of India's oldest advertising agency - Everest Brand Solutions as a part of their academic visit. Mr. Ravi Walia, Director, Strategic Planning addressed the students on the essence of strategy planning in an advertising campaign. He also briefed them about the nuances and realities of the functioning of an advertising agency.
MET IMM students visited Zoom Television, one of India's leading glamour and entertainment television channels covering the latest news and updates on films and celebrities. Students were thrilled to meet the Editor-in-Chief, Mr. Omar Qureshi who shared his experience on celebrity interviews with them. As part of the ADMM Entertainment – Television module, an academic visit to the sets of TV series ‘Firangi Bahu’ produced by Optimystix Entertainment Pvt Ltd. was organized for students. The New Year has brought lots of landmark moments at the MET Institute of Mass Media. Early January ’08, the Entertainment students used their networking prowess and shone at the Pune International Film Festival. They managed to strike an excellent rapport with award wining director Anurag Kashyap and got a special invite to the screening of his unreleased film 'Paanch'. Anurag Kashyap visited MET IMM for VIP guest lecture.
Award winning filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar visited MET Institute of Mass Media. He was extremely impressed with the student films and his interactions with the faculty team left a lasting impact.
Veteran Film Director – Rahul Rawail (Director of Betaab, Arjun, Love Story and Arjun Pandit) shared his thoughts with the Entertainment students on August 5, 2008 at MET IMM. He analyzed the cult film ‘Arjun’. He also shared his thoughts on Ad Film making and Feature Film making with the M4 - batch.
25 students visited MET on an International Student Exchange Programme. The students were Tablers from International Round Table, England and visited MET under the Young Ambassadors Programme. The students were mainly from Europe - England, Germany, France, Belgium, Switzerland and Austria. The idea was to showcase the world-class infrastructure facilities and intellectual capital housed at MET. The students had insightful interactions with Prof. Sushil Bahl, Former Director - MET Institute of Mass Media and noted film director & MET faculty - Vikas Desai..
Internationally renowned trainer Kathiravan Pethi from Grooming Dales facilitated a short workshop on Interpersonal Relationship for the students. He took the students through role-play and explained how individual personality traits of individuals affected the thinking, emotions and actions of people in their relationships.
Professor Linda Correll, Faculty from Department of Advertising, University of Florida, USA Facilitated a half-day workshop on 'Creative Aerobics' for the Advertising students at MET Institute of Mass Media. She has developed the concept of 'Creative Aerobics' a new creative ideation system that uses exercises for the left and right brain for maverick ideas and solutions in advertising.
Ravi Shyam, CEO - Media Training Worldwide, India conducted a two-hour 'media training' workshop. This practical session shed light on various aspects and fine points of facing the media. Advertising students from MET Institute of Mass Media received practical tips on functioning as Senior Corporate Managers in an organisation. Mr. Shyam elaborated fundamentals of facing media and demonstrated using a video film, live recording, video playback & role play.
Nationally renowned script and dialogue writer, Anjum Rajabali visited MET recently. He conducted a film-script writing workshop for the Mass Media students.
Sajid Khan was here for an informal tete-a-tete with the budding film maters at MET Institute of Mass Media. In his trademark tongue-in-cheek humorous style, he led the interactive session and shed light on the existing film making styles and trends. He explained the nuances involved in selling one's skills and talents to correctly exploit the film market.
A film-making workshop was held for all the students at MET League of Colleges. The workshop was led by Sanjivv Shah, former Dy. Director - Entertainment - MET IMM. Mass Media students shared their experiences and course learnings during the workshop.
Noted film director, John Mathew Mathan held an interactive session on film-making at MET Institute of Mass Media. He spoke about his upcoming projects. He also shared his experiences as a film-maker. He highlighted the trials and tribulations film-makers experience while making a film especially with respect to fund-management, celebrity management, research etc. .
Amar K Deb, Former Head - Channel [V] delivered an interactive session on ‘thinking out of the box' at MET Institute of Mass Media. He addressed the pertinent question: In the crowded world of Indian cable television, channels across segments are in a mad race for eyeballs; so how does one appeal to the largest possible audience? He referred to how Channel [V] has created a branding for itself on television to differentiate it from its competitors.
In order to familiarise students towards social & health causes, MET IMM invited the NGO 'Crusade against Tobacco' (CAT) for a special sharing session. Vincent Nazareth, from CAT shared valuable insights on 'Harmful effects of Tobacco' in an interesting and interactive manner. The session left a tremendous positive impact on the faculty and students.
